Caliper - how to jazz up the one ugly part of my Z8

This does look hideous. I am hoping to powder coat the calibers, but Can't decide on the color. Looking for opinions.

What color should I do? My car is Silver/Black.

Had mine done in matte silver - they donít stand out but very classy look.

How much do you want them to stand out? Being that the calipers are not anything remarkable, without being over the top your choices are probably red, silver, gray, or black. Red might be a little too Ferrari-like, my personal preference would be gray or black.

    Skip,

I had mine done in black (topaz-crema). Dan MacKay at Bradan on Long Island did the work. If you want a paint and/or process input I'm sure Dan would be happy to talk to you. I've sent a lot of cars his way just tell him we are talking here.

Here are painted calipers on a Blu Pozzi 575 that Dan MacKay did for me. This is a Big Brembo setup. I think yellow is a classic caliper color.

The calipers on my Z8 are also in a matte silver.

Unless you have mono block calipers (after market). Don't draw attention to them. They are agricultural looking! Paint them to best disappear. Likely just black.

    You are most likely correct.

I had them sand blasted and powder coated to gloss black last year.

Finally stopped by to get a quote - these guys do a great job and with labor to remove and reinstall they are right at $1,000. A little more than I was hoping for.

If you haven't painted them yet (yeah, I'm a bit late to this thread), paint them yellow. I've had a few silver Ferraris and always got them with yellow- look absolutely great!

Goid idea - have not done it. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Hello ---

Does any one have a picture (or can someone take one) of pristine original Z8 break calibers. I am finally going to get mine refinished if the snow will ever go away and if you wonder why, just take a look at the very first picture on this thread. I am quite sure that I will stay away from a unique color and will stay with the original look, but I would like see exactly how they were when the car rolled out from the factory.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Z8 caliper color

Here is an indoor flash picture (winter here outside too!) of front wheel Z8 caliper. Wear and tear - just under 3000 miles. Very dark grey in person. I would prefer yellow like the Ferrari picture I posted above.

Guys, the stock calipers are agricultural looking units, nothing like a beautiful mono block. And tiny by comparison to HP systems. They work wonderfully, but if you paint them a bright color, you only draw attention to perhaps the single ugliest part on this car! Pleeeeeaaaaase, black only!

  19. #19
Norcal - Good points, especially since I think that the stock wheel is perfect and would not want anything to distract from that.

And thatís coming from the only guy to ever paint them to match the roundel blue!.... but they were huge brembo units. The stock ones are small, and textured too.

Norcal - that is exactly why I at the end decided to just go basic. Thackray and Norcal, just to confirm it is a matt black, no shine. Right?

I'd suggest a satin, as it's a bit richer-darker than a full matt which can look a bit gray.

Finally had the calipers painted. Ended up going black and I am very glad I did. Thank you for everybody's feedback and suggestions! I did purchase new clips.
