This is my first post and I want to thank fellow enthusiasts for documenting the Z8. I bought the silver Z8 auctioned at The Quail. So many of my questions have been answered by reading the thoughtful posts made here. Cheers

Congratulations on the purchase and welcome to the Z8 knowledgebase. This site has been invaluable to me - 20 years of Z8 information along with helpful owners to answer any questions!
Congratulations and welcome!
Please do post pictures of your new car when you can.

Congratulations. Silver/black is the classic presentation. Did the $210,000 selling price include the buyer’s premium. Lovely car!
I believe that forum member mk31755 purchased his red Z8 without a hardtop. It is my understanding that he was eventually able to purchase a top. You might contact him for guidance.
Bigpoppa; Ian I didn't know you were a forum member. Its nice to hear from you. I also got my car without a hardtop. They can be sourced. An nos one from Germany is round about $10,000. It comes primed, so it has to be painted. I don't know what shipping is from Germany. You can look around and see if one pops up on ebay. I know there are several used ones for sale on ebay Germany. I don't know if they will ship to the USA. When I was all said and done buying Ian's hardtop, installing a new headliner, repainting from black to red, and shipping I had about $8000 into the project. The part number for an nos hardtop is 54217125707. Good luck.
bigpoppa; You will also need a hardtop stand and cover ($450). The part number for this is 82157037901. There has been a black one for sale on ebay Germany for quite a while now. He wants $6000. It wouldn't hurt to email him and see what the shipping costs are to the USA. It also has the stand and cover.
Thank you to all who posted and gave a warm welcome. The car is on its way to Dallas from Carmel as I type this. I will investigate the german hard top. I had no idea there was an ebay of Germany. This board is awesome in how its members support each other.
I have the parts for the performance package. I found a recommendation several years old regarding talent in Dallas/Ft. Worth that have done this but they are not to be found. BMW of Plano has been sold to Sewell and no one there recognizes the names posted. Anyone have a BMW mechanic in Texas who is familiar with the performance package. As I type this , Steve Jobs Z8 auction is on my TV!
Cheers!

Bigpoppapump, I just responded to your pm with a reccommendation for PP installation in Dallas. Not sure if there are any Ft. Worth or Austin owners who post, but they may have others. Manuel in Houston may have one too. If you look through the frame forums you will find a reference to the "quarter test", where you run the edge of a quarter down the seam area between hood and fender to make sure it does not bind. Cars with serious deformation issues had the seam almost meeting near the headlight.

Congrats on your Z8 purchase! Unless you are in a rush for a hardtop, they pop up from time to time. Perhaps one will become available in your area as well. I find them to be a bit of a pain simply because I will never put it on the car and still it takes up storage space. It's just been sitting on the hardtop rack covered and with a bed style comforter on top of it.
